Ok, I'm already bored with 5384.4 cause it ain't much different than all the other 53 series builds. When is the next build due? THX Frank

I'm borred...
Open a cmd window and issue the cmd: "winsat dwm -csv whatever.csv"... maybe you won't be so bored... ;-) or maybe you will continue to be bored... don't know... but... that command hosed my video system, for real...

You have tested everything? From MCE to Tablet PC to Group Policy? 53 builds? hmm, lets see:
1. 5112 - BETA 1 2. 5219 3. 5231 4. 5259 - TAP only 5. 5270 6. 5308 7. 5342 8. 5365 9. 5381 10. 5384 - BETA 2
Alpha Builds: 1. 4051 2. 4074 3. 5048
Thats a total of 13 builds officially released by Microsoft. Trust me, 5384.4 is light years ahead of 5112, not to mention the alphas. 5112, crashed everytime I enabled the screensaver and leaved it for a period of inactivity. It took up to 1hr 30mins also to install, crashed on shutdown, slow, could not network (networking stunk actually), could not join Domains, the log on screen was clumsy. Subsequent builds up to 5231 were just as bad, things didn't start to get better until about build 5270, but 5308 was a let down knowing it was designated "feature complete", slow, buggy, but it worked.
Now, if we talk about the alphas, those would be rehashing nightmares. 4074 took a marathon 3hrs 15mins to install on my laptop, 12 hours in Virtual PC. 5384.4 (BETA 2), took 35 mins on my system, some persons reported 20 mins and it will only get better, since we are not at RC1 yet and who knows what that has to hold. So after 13 builds, ur 53, I think the Windows Team has made some progress. And if you look at what time has done for Vista, I would say the wait was all worth it, integrated system search thats light years ahead of Search Companion in XP, tighter security (Protect Mode, AntiPhishing - IE 7), Windows Defender, infamous UAP. A more comprehensive set of SKU's thats more flexible for consumers and businesses to make the right choices and get more value from their investment. Features such as built in Virtual PC Express, Tablet PC, Unix Subsystem, Windows Meeting Spaces (people near me), New Image Based deployment for businesses, while Consumers get premium features such MCE, Tablet PC, better media and data management through new applications such as Photo Gallery, Media Player 11, Windows Calendar.
Lets not forget the opportunities beneath the hood, Windows Presentation and Communication Foundation giving developers new exciting possibilities to create, stunning, secure, connected applications. And post Vista will only present more exclusives that I am sure will keep us a happy bunch for years to come. Oh, and Aero Glass looks good too. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I think I did about 9 of those builds. So what is next? THX Frank
I don't think he meant 53 builds but all the builds that START 53xx - which he's probably right about! ;-)

You're right - it's pretty much the same as 5381 - however there are some performance tweaks and some things have been modified... not much, but mainly backend stuff :o)
Generally, it should run a lot better, but the main improvement in Beta 2 (5384) is the SKU's and different editions - that's the main point of it I think, so that different types of users can get different perspectives for the different products.

I might dl the public when it's available, maybe in 64 bit, and compare
it to my 84.4 32 bit. Just for something to do. Frank
Well I consider Beta 2 a Huge Improvement over Build 5308 CTP, just FYI.

Well, for you it would be, but for Tech Testers and TAP customers who have been playing with updated builds since 5308, its not much of a change (5342, 5365, 5381). -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta
